What Does Social Media Mean To You? With Connie Reece, Luc Debaisieux, Gavin Heaton and Drew McLellan

What Does Social Media Mean To You? is a continuing video series of Little Sound Bites of thoughts and  insights. Perhaps you'll be on the little Flip video next time we meet!

Today's tapa-bits are complements of four people, from Texas, Belgium, Australia and Iowa, who came together to celebrate a global community of friendships with 80+ others at Blogger Social.

Connie Reece Every Dot Connects and Twitter Diva is the Principal at Reece & Company.

Sound Bite Social Media is ...
The media is the tools and technology that allows everyone to be a publisher.
The social part is it's all about the relationships.

Luc Debaisieux, Mind Blob, is Head of TV for JWT Group Belgium.
Luc's finger puppet metaphor explanation of social media is a must see.
Sorry for the lighting.

Sound Bite Social Media is ..
Listening to each other where ever we are and connecting to each other.
Just humans talking to each other.

Gavin Heaton, Servant of Chaos, came from down under, Australia, to see "the friends I never met." Gavin is the Education Business Development Manager at SAP America Inc.

Sound Bite Social Media is ..

Social media is all about people. I have a lot of friends who I never met. When we come together face-to-face we don't need to worry about if we're going to get along, we know we are and it's beautiful.

Captain Drew McLellan, Drew's Marketing Minute, is the Top Dog at McLellan Marketing Group.

Sound Bite Social Media is ..
To really engage and get to know people on an individual level.
Social media is a tool for all of us to connect.

I love Luc's wavelength metaphor. It is a great way of describing the connection and its link with emotion. Thanks for sharing, Toby!

@Gavin - Very glad you could see Luc's metaphor even with the poor lighting. It's a great explanation of social media. I loved your comment about meeting "old friends" .. lovely way of reinforcing how relationships made online do become important.

Oh, the crazy things we do for our "friends we've never met." :-) Your Social Media Sound Bites series is excellent, Toby -- very informative to see short takes on the subject.

It was such a pleasure to meet you there. Thank you for this brilliant idea and for taking the time to film and edit that series of videos.
Love the "old friends" notion as well... isn't it what we all felt when meeting at BS08? : )

Absolutely ate these up, Toby and all. LOVED LOVED LOVED them! Really made BloggerSocial (which feels about a decade ago) fresh and new again in my mind.

@Connie - are you referring wearing a pink boa and a green foam Lady of Liberty hat? You were a great sport and a true Diva to do this piece!

@Luc - it was you, Connie, Drew and Gavin who get the applause on this one. I was simply the "recorder" of your innovative insights. Yes! it was lovely to meet "old friends" at the Social.

@Ann - Why is it in the world of social media time flies too fast? But with so many bloggers who were intense and intent to capture every moment we have a tapestry of visuals for our memory books.

I love this! Diva connects folks from all over the world.

Keep rockin' it!
Social media is definitely what is creating a smaller, more connected world.
