Help Naming A New Ping Service

07/06/2005

Marketing Divas and Divos Fred, the smart divo who created the free ping software asked for some help naming his new service. I thought of a few (not very good ones) so it would be helpful to Fred, and fun, to get your ideas. How creative are y'all when it comes to naming?  By the way, Fred is fine with not including "Fred" in the name <lol>.

» Help Name Fred's New Ping Service from B.L. Ochman's weblog - Internet strategy, marketing, public relations, politics with news and commentary
Apparently, several bloggers think that Fred's Ping Service is not a very creative name for a new ping service. Actually, I really like Fred's Ping Service: simple, straightforward, brands Fred, sounds like a human is involved.... But Toby Bloomberg is... [Read More]

From Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life", comes the title for the new service:

"Machine That Goes Ping"

That's my vote anyway...

All the best,Dave

Make folks think it's the best - how about being the King Ping?
Or be cool - be a Pinguin (could be a fun logo or gif)?

Hello!

Thank for your suggestions!

Machine That Goes Ping is cool but a little bit long, no? :)

King Ping and Pinguin are also really interesting. Two good little names where we could easely find a cool logo. I love them.

Ping Pong is good to, but the problem is that the term was over used some years ago in communication protocols. It is my humble opinion.

However, I will wait to see if other people have good suggestions. I think that I will do a pool with the names to see which I will get, I do not know for now.

Thank for you suggestion and continue if you have others :)

Salutations,

Fred

I was so tempted to suggest Ping-A-Ling but I thought better of it. :-)

What a fun post this has turned into. I knew that there were way far more creative people who could help Fred - thanks!

What's wrong with Fred's Ping Service? It's simple, to the point and certainly memorable. I like it.

Hello All :)

Toby is right: great thread.

Thank you all for your names. I just created a pool to choose The One:

Ronni, you are the first one that tells me that he like it :)

By the way, if someone is interesting in making a logo related with that new name, leave me an email, it will be really appreciated. By exemple, if the "King Ping" is the more popular, I think that a big proud P with a king crown could be cool :)

Thank you all and take cares,

Salutations,

Fred

I was going to suggest "ping-pong" too, but how about really obscure and geeky

"blog-ack" Way back in the day when you pinged (ponged?) a server it replied "ack" for acknowledged" So you ping, and the blogs all go "ack".

Yeah, I'm a geek.
