Amercian Cancer Society - Blog For Hope

08/10/2005

Corporate America wake up and smell the blogs! (ohh that sounds weird...). The American Cancer Society is once again ahead of the profit world curve when it comes to blog innovation strategies.

Lisa Meyers Brown has developed another creative use of blogs. Blog For Hope is a partnership program with Yahoo!and celebrity bloggers. Celebs who have an intimate connection to cancer - patient, survivor, relative of cancer patient, you get it - will tell their stories.

The celeb lineup includes: Fran Drescher, Peggy Flemming, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Jill Elkenberry, Lance Armstrong, Sam Donaldson and more to come.

Heard it from: Randy Moss - Community Mobilization

Sidebar: While you're playing following the links visit two or my fav "Indentity" blogs (learned that term at BlogHer.) Cancer NewsWatch and Too Sexy For My Hair.

I wish I could take credit for this but it truly has been a collaborative effort. While it may have gotten legs from our colon cancer awareness Fab at 50 campaign (Yahoo loved it), we of course, love Yahoo and the exposure they can continue to bring to cancer awareness and prevention. Stay tuned...the effort launches early next week :)

I can testify 100% to the power of nutrition and exercise in my own life. I was a schizophrenic for 14 years. The doctors gave up hope. I consider myself to be always at risk but now I manage the illness effectively through methods available to everyone. I read books on nutrition, fitness, metaphysics and philosophy. I never gave up hope in recovery thanks to people who shared their testimonies of recovery with me. You really can make a difference in someone's life, even if you only meet for 30 seconds, they will remember it. It has more of an impact when they have been through it them selves. This illness expanded my horizons. I learned what it was like to be on th fringes of sociey and in the shadows of reality. Pain can be a crucible for change. It was not a happy experience but I learned more from this experience..and it changed me..now i know what it is to suffer, and I know better than to look down on those with real problems, you cannot teach this. I understand why we can be perfected in suffering. My journey started when i refused to give up..accept the norm..and listen to this stuff that is all behind the times..thanks to the information age..there is so much more possible. the doctor of the future I hope cannot only treat symptoms and, trauma, but also is a pinnacle of prevention science, and keeps records of what methods his paitents have tried and what works, he will work miracles that we never dreamed of and will charge a consultant and coach fee for making sure his patients stick to health living..many doctors already do this....an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Ohsaha, McDougal, Pritkin, et. all....dont take their word for it..research it scinetifically by experimenting on your self for 90 days..put their words inot practice..and I garuntee you will not regret it..also there is an excellent book called Ch'I the power within..this author used principles of the orient..to win against cancer..he walked away a kungfu master..and into a whole new way of life after years as a businessman in hong kong! I hope if you are struggling with your immune system..you will use this as an opportunity to take a close look at the world your life, and how you take care of yourself! May god bless your efforts and may he speed you on your way. peace be unto...those...who live by a system of ethics!

Toby, thanks for profiling NGO/NPO blogs. I'm part of the March of Dimes http://www.shareyourstory.org community which includes blogs and watching them catch fire is an amazing experience. You might want to tag your posts about this stuff as nptech as there is an emergent community/network interested in these ideas. We can share more easily this way.

Thanks

(your fellow brownie leader)

Nancy
