Friday Fun: Ice Cream
07/01/2005
Here's the scoop...I love ice cream. Ice cream in a sugar cone topped with chocolate jimmies (that's sprinkles for your non Bostonians) is the perfect street food. Of course hot fudge sundaes are on the list too. Homemade ice cream, well, it's my idea of heaven.
Last summer I bought an ice cream maker. This summer I've been playing around with the Barefoot Contessa's ice cream recipe that was inspired by the Turtle candy. Rich vanilla, streaked with caramel, chocolate and pecans. Girlfriend, it is to die for! And the Amateur Gourmet has posted the recipe! I add some NZ hokey pokey (an idea from my dear friend Jilly in NZ) for a richer caramel indulgence and toast the pecans before adding them.
Sidebar: The Barefoot Contessa is wonderful. Unlike some cooking shows, that take themselves way to seriously, she seems to have fun. Laughs a lot. Her recipes are easy to follow and her books are beautiful. Note: nope! not a paid endorsement but I love to be invited to one of her parties!
Altho chocolate is not my fav flavor it would appear that in the world of ice cream flavor tests I'm a chocolate. Or at least at the moment in time when I took the test.
