Corporate Blog Strategies

02/07/2005

Rick  Short, Director of Communication, Indium, gets blogging. After attending AMA's Blog: Beyond the Website Rick launched 3 blogs. One corporate and two personal.

Corporate blogs are being used to give customers, prospects and stakeholders a look into the heart & soul of an organization. PTB (prior to blogs) it was no easy task especially when the product or service wasn't warm and fuzzy. Robert showed the world that a high tech giant could be a cuddly teddy bear...well sometimes!

How do you give a company that manufactures solder pastes, fluxes and underfill materials a softer, kinder image? Rick is using one of the leaders of his company and a noted industry expert to accomplish that goal via a blog strategy.  Visit  Dr. Lasky's Blog and you'll find a man who is passionate about technology, excited about sharing his knowledge and vision.

After reading Dr. Lasky's posts, if I were in the business of buying solder pastes, Indium would be on my short list! Why? If Dr. Lasky is that enthusiatic about his work, I would assume that the firm would be committed to producing a high-quality product. Why? Because passionate people would demand nothing less.

The blog incorporates some interesting features like a weekly quiz. This week's Dr. Lasky QuizIf the probability that it will rain tomorrow is 10% and the probability that it will rain the next two days is 20% and 30% respectively, what is the probability that it will rain at least once in the next three days?

McChronicles, is dedicated to helping McDonald's become "awesome." Although the purpose of this blog is not to bash McD's, Rick does point out where there is room for improvement. The Marketing Lesson of McChronicles - blogs make it easy to publish critiques for the world to view. Companies must begin to consider blogs seriously as an influential P2P (peer-to-peer/person-to-person) communication vehicle and include blog monitor to their "clipping services" or environmental monitoring.

Good show divo Rick and welcome to the Blogosphere!

This is a great example of a corporate blog. Thanks for finding it, Toby. What makes it so good is that it shows how the blogging "medium" can be used in different ways for different purposes - Rick has developed an authentic corporate blog for his company, and also created his own personal blogs, each with the style appropriate for the purpose at hand. Kudos to him!
